Miranda's Miranda Fest: Popularity

Miranda is a very popular name in the Netherlands, and is in the top 100 female names in Sweden according to Behind the Name. This site also claims that May 11 is the Polish Name Day for Miranda, but I can't find any other sites to confirm this.

Miranda was first recorded at a given name in England in 1687, but did not become popular until the 20th century (for more historical information, see my derivation page).

The Social Security Administration (SSA) tracks all names given to babies every year, and breaks them down by male and female names. According to the SSA, Miranda has been rising in popularity as a first name for US babies since the 1960s (before that it was not in the top 1000 female baby names).

The SSA also has numbers for each year since 1990. These numbers make Miranda seem less popular than some of the baby name cites, because many of these websites collapse similar spellings. For example, see BabyCenter.com.
