Miranda's Miranda Fest: Miscellaneous
I'm always looking for
more Miranda trivia, so if you have any drop me an email.
(I used to have a guestbook, but it got too much spam.)
- Miranda Instant Mesenger, an IM client that allows you to interface with multiple kinds of servers (MSN, ICQ, etc.).
- La Miranda...a house built near Barcelona by the architect Antonio Gaudi, but torn
down in the 1960's.
- Pier One's Miranda Items...Pier One has several
"Miranda" items for sale on their website, such as:
-
Miranda
...a
programming language
(Note: Miranda is a trademark of Research Software Limited)
- Miranda
...a line of quality 3mm single lens reflex camera produced from 1953 to 1978.
Some interesting tidbits:
- mirandacamera.com has
information for collectors, plus some very high-quality photographs
of Miranda cameras (thanks, Brian Hayes)
- I once found a web page of someone who has made a
Stereo
Mirandas, (a camera with two lenses for taking stereo pictures). It
has some good pictures of his creation (this link is an archive of the site).
used to be the web server for the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics.
- Miranda Wines...
made by an Italian family living in Australia. They make
many varieties of wine.
I also found a website that sells Christmas Hampers that include them.
- The Miranda Shawl...
an antique-style shawl with sleeves to make it stay on.
- Mirandés...
is a dialect of Asturien, spoken in north-eastern Portugal
and northern Sparin
(Asturia and northern Leon). Here are some examples and more information about the language. From this region
of Portugal you get a lot of other Mirandes* things, such as:
- The Spellbook of Miranda... spellbook for what? I don't
know. But you can look at all the spells in it (scroll down to Miranda)
- Mirandy Rose... a deep maroon-red rose with a very
strong fragance, it won an All-America Award in 1945. The bushes grow to
medium heights and their foliage is dull, but dense. (Thanks to INKY67@aol.com) A number of reviews of the rose say that it has a wonderful, strong
fragrance and deep red color that does not fade in the sun.
- Admired Miranda... one of the roses used by David Austin
to produce the cross called Sweet Juliet.
(Thanks to Miranda 'Ran' Jane Ward, who
grows Mirandy Roses in Maumelle, AR)
- Miranda Slipcovers... for Fieldcrest by SureFit.
Miranda was a lovely floral with earthy shades of rose, peach, and green on an ivory ground. Miranda was also available in blue.
- Miranda Bed in a Bag from Laurens Linens, designed by Di Lewis.
- Carmen Miranda Trout...
a series of plates and bowls by artist Marguerita Hagan, who also made
Carmen Miranda Meets Fiesta Ware
and the Carmen Miranda Tea Party.
- Miranda Stainless Flatware...
from Norstaal. If you
want replacements for your set, you can go to Replacements, Ltd.
- Miranda... a drink in Saudi Arabia. MP Gill
says: "Well in Saudi Arabia there is a drink called
Miranda. How I know is my mom was in Desert Storm and was talking about
me. They thought she missed a drink back home, they offered her some of
theirs. Although she explain it to them."
